Phylicia Rashad –  Ronald McDonald Care Mobile Clinic

The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile Clinics had been developed to provide initial health screenings, immunizations and primary care treatment for under-served areas.  In the late 1990’s, the clinics were primarily being utilized in the African American communities and there was a need to create additional awareness around these valuable services.

As such, the PR firm Golin turned to DLB for spokesperson ideas.  We suggested one of the most beloved “Moms” of that time: Phylicia Rashad who played Claire Huxtable on The Cosby Show.

Phylicia, with her poised presence and passion around helping the less-advantaged, was the perfect individual to communicate the importance of keeping up-to-date with your health screenings.

Although Phylicia had been turning down other spokesperson opportunities due to her busy schedule at the time, she enthusiastically accepted this role because of the important services the mobile clinics were providing.

Lesson Learned:  Don’t eliminate potential celebrities from consideration because you think they are too busy or may have scheduling conflicts.  When there is an important community service element involved, often times the celebrity will make room in their calendar to make it happen.
