Huggies launched a new line of “customizable” diapers (personalized colors/prints and a baby’s name or monogram) called
“Huggies Made by You”.
And, it selected design guru Nate Berkus and husband Jeremiah Brent of TLC’s “Nate & Jeremiah by Design” as brand ambassadors.
What makes this this spokesperson alignment unique, is that in addition to having a celebrity promote a product, it also showcases same-sex marriage and the vehicle of surrogacy to grow one’s family.
Brands recognize the importance of connecting with consumers on an emotional level and the use of celebrities must now go beyond “I’m a celebrity – buy this product”.
Nate and Jeremiah are very likable personalities, and they were probably chosen because they are relatable to and resonate with, the target audience of parents who have a little extra disposable income to spend on personalized diapers.
This is an example of the marketing arena embracing the diversity of current families. A trend that will continue and expand.
