Over the years, KFC has used several celebrities in its advertising to play the part of Colonel Sanders (Darrell Hammond, Norm Macdonald and Jim Gaffigan), but the recent addition of George Hamilton to promote the chain’s Extra Crispy chicken is pure genius.

Hamilton, the 76 year old actor is legendary for being sun-baked throughout the year, displaying a very deep, dark tan.  Additionally, he is known for having a rather playful and campy persona.

So it was brilliant for KFC’s agency Wieden+Kennedy to choose Hamilton to star in this new promotional campaign where the messaging revolves around the “crispiness” of the chicken.

The spot grabs your attention with Hamilton strolling around with an even more exaggerated tan and stark white hair as he delivers his lines in a self-deprecating manner.

Hamilton commented (tongue in cheek, I assume) that “one could argue that my entire career has been leading up to this role”.

Spot on George – I think it has!
